This is a great book to prepare for either the Associate Level or Bachelor Level of Excelsior College Med-Surg Nursing exams, to help in understanding A&P, or to prepare to enter LP/VN school. (I used it by itself to prepare for Bachelor Level Med-Surg Exam and did fine.) It provides those nuggets of knowledge necessary to do well, and NCLEX style review exams at the end of each chapter as an aid to test your grasp of that topic.
Chapters are arranged by body system, and also include an overview of normal and abnormal lab values that are associated with those systems. Anatomy and Physiology of each system is detailed. Mental health is treated near the end of the text. At the very end of the book is a 100 question multiple choice NCLEX style comprehensive "final exam" over all body systems. Answers to all the test questions follow the comprehensive exam questions.
Written in plain language, this would also be good to use as an adjunct to books used in a classroom based course, or to prepare to enter LP/VN school if you're nervous about all the new information you will be required to learn in a very short time frame. It would also be helpful if you anticipate, or are having a tough time understanding human anatomy and physiology.
