Ribosome Facts

Ribosome Facts

Ribosomes are the cellular organelles that carry out protein synthesis, through a process called translation . They are found in both prokaryotesand eukaryotes , these molecular machines are responsible for accurately translating the linear genetic code, via the messenger RNA, into a linear sequence of amino acids to produce a protein.

All cells contain ribosomes because growth requires the continued synthesis of new proteins. Ribosomes are like tiny factories in the cell. They make proteins that perform all sorts of functions for the cell's operation.

Ribosomes are either located in the liquid inside the cell called the cytoplasm or attached to the membrane. They can be found in both prokaryote (bacteria) and eukaryote (animals and plants) cells.

Ribosomes are a type of organelle. Organelles are structures that perform specific functions for the cell. The ribosome's job is to make proteins. Other organelles include the nucleus and the mitochondria.

Weird Facts about the Human Body

Weird Facts about the Human Body

The Human Body is a treasure trove of mysteries, one that still confounds doctors and scientists about the details of its working. It’s not an overstatement to say that every part of your body is a miracle. Here are fifty facts about your body that will leave you stunned.

As long as we make efforts to take care of ourselves and live healthy, there is a good chance that our bodies will serve us well for a long time. Our bodies truly are amazing. You might be surprised at what your body is capable of after reading these 50 weird facts about the human body.

URINARY BLADDER FACTS

URINARY BLADDER FACTS

The bladder is a round, bag-like organ that stores urine. It is located in the pelvic area, just below the kidneys and right behind the pelvic bone.

Your bladder serves a vital function by removing waste products from your body, and your spinal injury is likely to have had an effect on its ability to work well. There are a number of ways you can help ensure good bladder health.

The bladder is a storage organ that sits in your pelvis. Urine is made by your kidneys and stored in the bladder until you are ready to empty it. When you go to the toilet your bladder outlet muscles (urethral sphincter and pelvic floor) relax and your bladder contracts (squeezes) emptying your bladder of urine.

As a progressive medical practice dedicated to female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, we have a lot of experience with the female bladder. Many people don’t give this organ much thought until things go wrong, but the bladder is unique in many ways.

NEURON FACTS

NEURON FACTS

A neuron (also known as a neurone or nerve cell) is a cell that carries electrical impulses.Neurons are the basic units of the nervous system and its most important part is the brain.

Every neuron is made of a cell body (also called a soma), dendrites and an axon.Dendrites and axons are nerve fibres. There are about 100 billion neurons in the human brain, which comprises roughly 10% of all brain cells. The neurons are supported by glial cells and astrocytes.

Neurons are connected to one another and tissues. They do not touch and instead form synapses. These gaps can be chemical synapses or electrical synapses and pass the signal from one neuron to the next.

The human body is made up of trillions of cells. Cells of the nervous system, called nerve cells or neurons, are specialized to carry "messages" through an electrochemical process. The human brain has approximately 86 billion neurons. To learn how neurons carry messages, read about the action potential.

Neurons come in many different shapes and sizes. Some of the smallest neurons have cell bodies that are only 4 microns wide. Some of the biggest neurons have cell bodies that are 100 microns wide. (Remember that 1 micron is equal to one thousandth of a millimeter).
