Organisation of the body

The human body is organized at different levels, starting with the cell. Cells are organized into tissues and tissues form organs. Organs are organized into organ systems such as the skeletal and muscular systems.

This part of the chapter explains the anatomical terminology used to ensure that relationships between body structures are described consistently.

An overview of the bones forming the skeleton is provided and the contents of the body cavities are explored.
